Praise Header

Gateway's praise ministry leads us in singing praises to God in our worship services and special events. We believe that God made us for His own glory. For us to come together as His people to praise Him in song is one of the ways we worship and glorify Him with our lives. In the words of John Piper in his classic book Desiring God, "The fuel of worship is a true vision of the greatness of God; the fire that makes the fuel burn white hot is the quickening of the Holy Spirit; the furnace made alive and warm by the flame of truth is our renewed spirit; and the resulting heat of our affections is powerful worship, pushing its way out in confessions, longings, acclamations, tears, songs, shouts, bowed heads, lifted hands, and obedient lives."

At Gateway, our corporate praise times are an important part of our lives of worship as we respond in song to God's Word and His glory and greatness.

WHY WE SING WHAT WE SING

We believe that the songs we sing in our gatherings are so important.  They communicate truth that we remember all week long, and are an important part of our discipleship.  As such, we use three criteria to guide what we sing together at Gateway:

  1. Is it true to Scripture?  The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It is all we need for life and godliness.  As such, we make sure the lyrics of the songs we sing align with what Scripture teaches.  God's Word must be the foundational criteria for what we sing back to Him in praise.

  2. Does it glorify God?  God created us to glorify Him, and calls us to do so with our entire lives.  Our songs of praise are one part of that.  As such, we make sure the songs in our gatherings focus on God's glory, nature, and greatness.  Expect songs that are God-focused, not man-focused.

  3. Is it singable? We believe in the importance of congregational singing.  Songs in our gatherings are not there to entertain us.  They are there for us to collectively sing in praise to the Lord.  As such, we make sure that what we sing is singable for a congregational setting.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

Join other believers from Gateway to serve together in community by helping lead in the praise ministry.  Instrumentalists, vocalists, computer operators, sound board technicians, and live stream operators are all part of our praise team community.  To learn more about these opportunities, contact Justin Taylor, Gateway's music minister.  We want to provide you opportunities to use your gifts in serving the Lord by helping make the congregational gatherings possible each Sunday.
