Men, join us for a day of fellowship and adventure as we explore the scenic Smith Mountain Fire Tower area of Lake Martin. There is no cost to attend, but advance registration is required. This trip is also open to men of all ages, as well as their sons ages 5 and up (who are accompanied by their dads).
THE HIKE & THE FIRE TOWER
First, we will hike the half-mile trail to the restored fire tower. There, you will have a chance to climb to the top for some very scenic views of Lake Martin and the surrounding area. After exploring the tower and the area around it, we will hike the Lakeshore Trail to the Island Hopper Trail. There, we explore several small islands that are only accessible by foot when Lake Martin is at its lower winter levels. Finally, we will return to the parking lot via the Lakeshore Trail.
The hike will be a total of about 4 miles. Please pack a simple lunch or snack that you can enjoy as we take a break on the shores of Lake Martin along the Island Hopper Trail.
You can read more information about this trail on the trail association website or on AllTrails.
