Gateway’s youth in 7th to 12 grades are invited to a day of fellowship and adventure as we explore the scenic Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail along the shores of Lake Martin in Tallapoosa County. There is no cost, but registration is required (see below).

This is a scenic loop trail totaling about 4 miles. Along the way, we will stop at a scenic spot along the shoreline where we will have a short devotional time and discussion. The hike features a few hills and a moderate climb at the end with a total elevation gain of 475 feet. Learn more about this trail on AllTrails or from the Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association.

Participants should pack a simple lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables after the hike.

Our trip leaders will be Mike Presley and Daniel Paulk (and more may be added as needed).

WHEN & WHERE TO MEET:

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, in the paved Gateway parking lot near the playground and church office entrance. We will carpool up to the trailhead which is north of Tallassee. It will take about an hour to get there.

Please note - There are no restroom facilities on the trail, but we will make restroom stops in Tallassee both before and after the hike.

We should return to Montgomery by mid-to-late afternoon.

WE WILL PROVIDE:

  • Group first aid kit
  • Insect repellant
  • Extra water

YOUR TEENAGER WILL NEED TO BRING:

  1. Small backpack to hold your water and snacks
  2. Water (at least 1 liter)
  3. High-protein snacks for the trail (energy bars, beef jerky, trail mix, etc.)
  4. A simple lunch (sandwich, Lunchables, etc.) to eat at the picnic tables when we finish the hike.
